In Calgary today, at a hall full of positive energy during the Mental Health Summit in Schools, I had a wonderful experience with educators and mental health speakers. I presented my speech and shared physical movements through dance to create joy. Thanks to The Headwater Learning Foundation of Calgary for organizing this event.

I am overjoyed just by looking at and touching the ready-to-harvest wheat crop on my family's ancestral farm in my village, Siahar in Punjab. After a gap of many years, I witnessed the wheat crop turn from green to golden. I spent a lot of time travelling the world, but the smell of this soil stayed with me wherever I went. I'm happy that I returned to my indigenous land to witness this magical time. To commemorate this precious moment, I intentionally bought a new turban that matches the golden hue of the ripe wheat. This turban colour will serve as a reminder of my farming roots and the wheat crop that has sustained my elders for many generations. 🧡🙏🏽

I was around 12 or 13 years old when I learned how to drive a tractor and helped my family with many farming duties. I would wake up around 4 AM, work on the farm, then around 7:30 AM, I would go to school, and again after school, I would plough the land. From evening until bedtime, I would do my school homework. After earning my master's degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, I moved to various locations around the world, finally settling in the Yukon. After a gap of many-many years, I recently drove a tractor again. As soon as I touched its steering wheel, it evoked a short emotional wave inside my heart, but later I found joy in driving it through the beautiful land. May the universe bless the ancestral soil of my beloved Punjab ❤️

Hello from my traditional territory of Punjab. For the past 10 days, I have been spending most of my time walking through the same land in my village as my ancestors did. Each step holds countless stories and memories, and it feels as if those people from thousands of years ago are watching me. From my childhood to my teenage years, I spent my formative years here. I played with friends and helped my parents with various farm tasks. This is more than just land; it embodies our heritage, culture, connection, resilience, hard work, and so much more.

Hello everyone, from my village in Punjab/ Panjab. I have arrived here to reconnect with my roots. This journey from the wilderness of the Yukon to my ancestral village, Siahar, in Punjab is more than just physical travel; it's an opportunity to reconnect with my roots and the land that fostered my growth.

As a child and a teenager, I spent my formative years playing amidst these farms. These verdant lands are not just fields of crops; they are landscapes of my childhood, filled with vivid memories of laughter, joy, and life lessons. Hugging these crops felt like I was embracing my old friends.

On this land, I would often assist my parents with their farming duties. Through this hands-on involvement, I learned the values of hard work, patience, and respect for the land that sustained us. Irrigated with water from the Himalayas, the land we tilled and nurtured is our ancestral land, passed down from generation to generation. Because of this, the soil beneath my feet holds stories of my lineage, making it a sacred and incredibly special place. Indeed, it was the soil of Punjab that guided this citizen of the universe to form a soulful connection with the Yukon's wilderness. A seed, sprouted in this land of Punjab, matured in the boreal forest of the Yukon.

Due to health problems, financial difficulties, work troubles, relationship struggles, the mental health impact of Covid, inflation, ongoing international wars, negativity on social media, polarization, intolerance among different religious groups, divisions, differences of opinions, and more, people are experiencing immense pressure on their minds. These factors contribute to feelings of sadness, loneliness, stress, uncertainty, anxiety, depression, anger, and a myriad of other challenges in their lives.

In an effort to instil hope, healing, love, unity, and smiles in the world, Gurdeep Pandher of the Yukon and Todd MacLean of Prince Edward Island wrote a song titled "Joy, Hope, and Positivity". This song delivers a powerful message: while it's important for us as humans to acknowledge emotions like sadness and loneliness, we must also take steps to find joy, hope, love and kindness in our lives.
